Welcome to Year 3/4

Croeso i Flwyddyn 3/4

Dear Parents/Guardians,

A warm welcome to Year 3/4! Firstly, I would like to introduce myself. I am Mr Evans, the Year 3/4 class teacher.  I am very much looking forward to getting to know your children and meeting as many of you as possible. You will find that some of the routines are the same as when your child was in Year 2 or 3, but there are some changes.

Year 3/4 are also supported by Mrs A Smith and Mrs S Smith our Teaching Assistants. Please continue to use the pink home-school books provided for any messages or questions you may have. Could you please ensure that I am made aware of any changes in address, telephone numbers or medical information as soon as possible. It is really helpful if dinner money is placed in an envelope with the child’s name and class written on the front and either handed in to staff or placed in the Year 3 basket in the foyer. Please ensure all clothing is clearly labelled. Lost items cannot be traced without name labels.

For breaktime the children can either bring their own fruit or it can be bought for 30p from the school fruit shop. We encourage the children to drink water during the day and we have school water bottles for sale if you would like to purchase one otherwise you are welcome to provide your own reusable water bottle.

This year we are continuing the 'walk a mile' initiative. Children will be walking a mile every morning to improve their general health and wellbeing. As a result children will need suitable footwear daily.

Homework is an essential part of school life and is given to reinforce what is being learnt in the classroom. Language homework is given every Monday and should be returned on Wednesday. Maths homework is given on Wednesday and needs to be completed by Friday. All homework will be explained thoroughly to the children before being sent home.

Reading and the enjoyment that books give is such an important part of learning and during the year your child will have daily opportunities to read, individually, with a partner and as part of a small group. Please ensure that any school reading books are kept with the home-school book in the folder and returned to school every day. All children will benefit from continued reading support and sharing of books at home every night. Our class author is Roald Dahl and the children will enjoy a selection of his books throughout the year.

Further information about the topics and themes we will be studying this year will follow shortly.

If you have any concerns regarding anything please do not hesitate to come and see me either before school or after.

Many thanks for your continued support,

Mr C Evans (Class Teacher)
