School Council elections are held every September. Two pupils from each class from Nursery/Reception to Year 6 are elected through a secret ballot following their nomination and speech.
All pupils become Class Representatives. Nominations and voting are later held by elected pupils to select the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer.
The School Council have their own bank account and pupils lead fundraising activities throughout the school.
Here at Ysgol y Castell ‘Pupil Voice & Participation’ is central to decision-making and changes.
We encourage participation as part of everyday teaching and learning through:
- Self assessment & evaluation;
- Questionnaires, surveys, circle time and suggestion boxes;
Meetings are held at least once a month and each representative returns to the classroom with tools and activities to capture pupil voice, questions and opinions. All opinions and requests are taken to the Head Teacher, Miss Goodfellow, Senior Management Meetings, Staff Meetings and Governing Body Meetings.
The Chair and Vice Chair of the School Council are invited to meet the Governing Body of Ysgol y Castell and Kidwelly Town Council.
